If you are looking for qualities spices, here’s a short list of companies, outside of Amazon.com, where you can grab some small-batch & high-quality spices to prepare and enliven your beloved Mauritian dishes.
I have hand-picked these companies and have personally met or spoken to the respective owners. They’re companies with a huge heart and excellent customer service. Most importantly, they care about humanity, sustainably, and the little farmers (who almost always get the short end of the stick).
I hope you love them too.
While I do earn a small commission if you make a purchase on their website, I would recommend them wholeheartedly even if I did not.
Pure Indian Foods
Pure Indian Foods is my very favorite place to get unadulterated Indian spices and other high-quality ingredients online. The owners are 5th generation ghee makers and they are intimately involved in the production of their products.
Three of their pantry items that I always have at home are the cold-pressed mustard oil, aromatic Himalayan basmati rice, and oh-so-dreamy rose syrup. Well, of course their Cultured Ghee, made from grass-fed milk, basically sits on my kitchen counter at all times.
I use their basmati rice and cultured ghee to make my Mauritian Chicken Biryani and their mustard oil in my Fish Vindaye.
Almost all of their products are Certified Organic and their spices are non-GMO and non-irradiated, basically as nature intended.

Burlap & Barrel
Burlap & Barrel is a mission-driven, true mover and shaker spice company.
If you love food, I mean truly love food, you could spend a long time there. So make yourself some chai and head other there to see for yourself.
They source unique spices, including those used in Mauritian recipes that are grown organically and sustainably using traditional techniques.
